Yoga with JaneClick the buttons below to explore the opportunities to work with Jane. | Welcome back to the monthly teacher highlight at the Roswell Yoga Life blog! This month, we're featuring our favorite courageous, driven, and supportive instructor at the studio-- Jane Pope! Read our fun and insightful interview to learn more about how Jane contributes her unique energy and compassion in the Roswell community, and in our studio classes! Tell me a little bit about your yoga journey from the beginning. I started my practice 16 years ago. The changes in my physical strength, flexibility and balance were profound, but the real change began occurring within. I discovered the connection between pushing my edge physically and conversely being able to surrender in my asana practice. The shift that was occurring on my mat transferred into my daily life and a door opened in my mind and heart that I had not experienced before. Yoga became an integral part of my life, transforming me from the inside out. My practice has sustained me in the most challenging times in my life, always reminding me to be present in this moment because this moment is all we have-- and it to will pass! What's it like to be a part of the RYL community? I love getting to know our members and sharing the many benefits of yoga with them. The bonus? It's a pleasure to be a member of a team that reflects a united passion and love for yoga and appreciates the gift of sharing this practice with our community! Did you ever see yourself teaching yoga when you started practicing? The thought did cross my mind on occasion but fear sabotaged it. The voice in my head told me, “you can’t do that… you’re not good enough!" When did you know that you were called to teach? The light bulb went off in August 2012; lying in savasana, dripping sweat with tears in my eyes. What does yoga mean to you? Balance, clarity, strength and peace. What is the most magical thing about yoga? It’s never the same and I have never hit a plateau in my practice. There is always a place I can go to challenge myself or let go whether it be physically or mentally. Why do people especially need yoga in their lives? Yoga nourishes the mind, body and spirit. Who doesn't need that! This month we're offering more variety for our students, in the form of a "Yogic Journey." What forms of yoga have you tried that pleasantly surprised you? What styles of yoga do you wish to explore? Meditation and Yin Yoga are two things I never saw myself doing because I didn't recognize the benefits of either practice. I was all about the Yang: heated rooms, challenging standing and balancing asanas, pushing my edge physically. Never say never. I now make a yin a part of my practice every week and it is one of my favorite formats to teach! Meditation is a game changer for me as well-- if you have never tried it, do [it]! Start out with small increments of time and build from there. I promise you that one day, 30 minutes will go by and you’ll [think], "WOW!" What is your favorite music to practice to, and why? I enjoy classical or anything instrumental because it is beautiful to listen to (I’m not distracted by vocals). . What 3 words would describe your life outside of your yoga practice? Adventurous, energetic and caring. What is your greatest guilty pleasure? Dark chocolate. Anything your students ought to know about you? Life is short and I always remind myself not to take myself too seriously. |

This week’s Wellness Wednesday is all about drinking-- water, that is! Did you know that maintaining a positive intake of fluid throughout the day can make the difference between:
And a whole host of other benefits? We’re smitten with the wet stuff this week, and wanted to highlight the importance of drinking plenty of water for overall health and wellness in your life! Why am I So Tired? The human body is a delicate ecosystem of balance and constant adjusting to stay in homeostasis, or the body’s happy place. By drinking enough water throughout the day, your body has enough “fuel” to regulate cell production, body processes like liver detoxification, and energy metabolism to stay alert and feeling good all day long! Having Troubles on the Scale? Drinking water can boost your metabolism, too. By having enough water, it frees the body up to produce energy which creates a positive effect on the amount of energy you burn during the day. In addition, water helps lubricate the digestive tract, making your meals digest easier and faster than they would if you were dehydrated. A healthy bowel is a healthy gut, which translates into proper hunger hormone function! Feeling Too Cold or Too Hot? Water plays a large role in circulation; in particular, keeping you cool. When we’re overheated, water can distribute in the blood vessels, expanding them and creating a lower blood pressure. This takes the sting out of hot weather or hot flashes, keeping you cool and comfortable! This change in circulation allows colder weather to make little impact toward poor blood distribution-- a common Winter complaint! Have the Smooth Hair and Skin You Deserve! Water is by far the most important beauty supplement you can take! By drinking enough H2O, the body can properly produce and distribute proteins in the form of amino acids for the body to build upon. A healthy cell needs amino acids and proteins to produce stunning hair, skin and nails-- water is the key! In addition, one of the first signs of dehydration is dry lips. Drink enough water to stay kissable all day! Heart Healthy Drinks Studies may show that an occasional glass of red wine is beneficial for the heart, but we’re taking shots of something different-- you guessed it, water! Water successfully lowers blood pressure, a common complaint of those suffering with heart disease. Drink enough water to prevent the pain and pressure of thick blood to make easy work for your heart. Thinner blood is easier to pump and distribute through the body. Water combined with healthy exercise, such as a yoga practice, is an effective and easy strategy to tackle heart issues head on! Do you drink enough water? What are your favorite benefits of staying hydrated? Share your stories on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with the hashtags #rylwellnesswednesday and #roswellyogalife! This month, we’re featuring the benefits of exploring the entire spectrum of yoga styles on the mind, body and spirit. March also happens to be the month of green, with the classic story of St. Patrick’s Day! The story of this widely celebrated holiday just isn’t complete without mentioning pots of gold at the end of a rainbow and leprechauns guarding their treasures there. Legend has it that mythical fairies float around these pots of magic, helping the leprechauns from stealing them away! We’re inspired by this Irish folk tale and wanted to share how a yoga practice can enrich your life, as well as push you closer to your rainbows. Follow your heart and check out our 3 Ways to Reach Your Rainbows through yoga! Challenge yourself. Try a new style. It’s often overwhelming to experience something for the first time. Many of us feel daunted by the challenge, but the human body is capable of great things! Nelson Mandela once said, “there is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” Whether Ashtanga is actively calling your name, Yin is yearning for your presence, or Vinyasa is a venture you’re interested in pursuing, take a leap of magical faith this month and try something for the very first time! RYL’s First Friday Fun | Our monthly FREE night of a light-hearted yoga practice that matches a theme: this month it will be the 80’s! Explore your adventurous side and indulge in your favorite memories from such an iconic time in history! Beauty and the Props | This RYL-teacher hosted event will give you the skinny on how to use props to bolster, and boost, your yoga practice! Never used a prop in class before? It could make the difference between settling into a pose and sinking fully into one! This event is not to be missed, as Reanna and Jaimee will lead you to yoga transformation! Detox with Asana. Looking to regenerate your cells, boost your immunity, prevent illness and gently detoxify your internal organs? Asanas are designed to not only align the body and the spirit, but they can physically heal the body as well! Cat and Cow | This series is a perfect mid-body flush-- encouraging the intestines, core organs and blood flow to boost digestion and overall circulation! Place knees and palms on the floor with a straight back, looking 3 feet in front of you. Lift your hips, making a curve with your belly curving closer to the floor. Come back to center before lifting your belly button to your spine, making a bridge between your neck and hips. Repeat this cycle, making inverted curves to encourage more healing! 3-Leg Downward Dog | Most of us are familiar with downward dog pose, as it is a pinnacle pose in every yoga practice. Take inversion therapy to new heights while in downward dog-- lift one leg toward the ceiling and maintain a calm balance on three limbs. Focus your energy to stabilize your body as you feel the detoxification through your body. Gently lower the lifted leg and repeat with your opposite leg. This encourages healthy circulation and a toned midsection! Create Community. It can be difficult to pursue a healthy lifestyle and find space to detoxify on your own, so we encourage you to group up or find a buddy to solidify your efforts with! According to the NY Times, people are always more productive in groups than when working solo. Take inspiration from teamwork and start a ripple effect among your own personal community. Inspiring one can lead to inspiring many, and we think that reaching success is always due to the help of many along the way. Detox with Roswell Yoga Life | 21 Day Detox Boost your detoxification of mind, body, and spirit with RYL’s first ever community event series-- the 21 Day Detox! How does yoga inspire you to consistently strive for a greater accomplishment in life-- spiritually and physically? Which of our 3 tips are you most excited to try? “Success doesn’t come to you. You go to it.” -Marva CollinsWelcome to Wellness Wednesday! This week we're tackling the stress in our lives with one of yoga's most powerful attributes: focusing on the breath. Ahhh... feeling better already! According to the American Psychological Association, over 44% of us are feeling moderate to high levels of daily stress! Putting that into perspective, every other person you interact with is currently holding space for damaging, painful stress throughout their lives! The beauty of a yoga practice means that you are creating new space for mindfulness, deep breathing, and an overall sense of peace-- even if it's only for 60 minutes. We've uncovered 3 expert ways to restore your breath, freeing you up to experience more joy and less pain. Check in For More Support Often, we experience varying levels of stress throughout the day. Whether it's a rigid interaction, running late for an appointment, or an urgent matter, stress is everywhere! Next time you're experiencing the tension of that stress, check in with your body. Ask yourself, "where am I creating tension right now?" Allow yourself to melt through each limb and muscle. This prevents your temporary stress from turning into deadly, chronic low level stress. This type of stress can cause autoimmune issues, colds, migraines, and even lower your immune system functions! Explore Meditation and Catch Your Breath Yoga immediately lowers the stress levels of those who practice regularly. Our weekly Meditation Mondays are designed to support those of us carrying extra stress that can only damage the immune system, psyche, and lower our quality of life. Simple, deep breathing techniques and exercises are encouraged in our meditations, as well as calming sounds in a soothing environment. Follow the Leader: Breathing Exercises Looking to see your stress out the door right now? Easy breathing patterns, like the ones featured in this video, can give you relief in just a few minutes. Enjoy the relaxation it will bring: What if a simple flower extraction could radically transform your life? This week's Roswell Yoga Life Wellness Wednesday is all about the power of the flower-- Bach Flower, that is!
Homeopathy is a popular form of alternative medicine dating back to over 300 years ago! Using the power of naturally derived bark, roots, leaves, and flowers, homeopathy is designed to heal the internal body by stimulating a natural stress response to induce rapid healing and transformation on a cellular, hormonal level. In 1920, the very first forms of Bach Flower Remedies were created as a natural, gentle form of alternative healing and care. Today, Bach Flower Remedies are commonly found at markets, specialty stores, and online. Dr. Edward Bach himself designed his company to treat homeopathy as an emotional and physical form of treatment. He has created iconic formulas targeted for particular dispositions and mental states, helping to balance and alleviate excesses in the psyche. We love the positive aspects of his studies, including the aromatherapeutic benefits of even catching a scent of a particular flower or leaf. How would one get started with Back Flower Remedies? It's simple: Bach's Questionnaire is filled with statements that may or may not apply to you. Depending on which statements relate to your disposition the most, the designated herb or flower is the perfect fit for you! Feeling sluggish and moody after a long and stressful encounter in life? Olive may be your perfect tincture to try! Find your treatment at the Questionnaire Page. Curious to learn more about herbal medicine? See the Bach FAQ page here! What were your results? Did you discover a new way to tackle your difficulties with Bach's Remedies? Have you tried homeopathy before? If so, what were your results? We believe even the smallest form of treatment, such as smelling fresh flowers at the farmer's market, can contribute to a greater sense of well being and overall happiness! In every Roswell Yoga Life class, we diffuse natural essential oils to encourage balance, serenity, and support! Share your bits of healthy happiness using the tags #rylwellnesswednesday #roswellyogalife on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! |
